Introduction

The FIA ​​is a federation representing the interests of automobile associations and motor vehicle users, established on June 20, 1904. Formula 1 is an international racing sport that is regulated and sanctioned by the FIA. The name "Formula" comes from a set of rules that participating cars and drivers must adhere to. The FIA has been facing backlash and criticism regarding the controversial 2020 model of Racing point which was accused of illegally copying the 2019 model of Mercedes W10 that had won the world championship. The Racing point team claim that they haven’t “copied”any model parts from other teams. However, teams like Renault, McLaren, and Redbull racing have been protesting against the unmistakably “Pink Mercedes' ' designed by Racing Point. Our inspection committee has been assigned to gather details and inspect this matter. 


Findings


  • The 2020 Racing point model RP20 and Mercedes-AMG’s W10 have conspicuous and prominent similarities in terms of model design.

  • The brake duct of RP20 is indistinguishable from that of W10’s. 

  • Racing point’s technicians had access to Mercedes cars and models in 2019.

  • The team has been performing well only with the advent of the 2020 model. Second to Mercedes in the Turkish Grand Prix. 

  • Teams like Renault, McLaren, and Redbull Racing held protests regarding the same.

  • Mercedes CEO and team principal, Toto Wolff feels disrespected by Racing point on copying his team’s model parts. 

  • Racing point’s team principal denies the allegations of illegal model replication. However, the CEO has yet to make a statement on this.

  • Racing point received its first pole position and podium in the RP20 model after 17 years.
